At Mohawk, we are passionately committed to the fight to find a cure for breast cancer. Since 2001, we have partnered with the Susan G. Komen foundation in an effort to help fund research and reach the organization’s Bold Goal to reduce U.S. breast cancer deaths by 50% by 2026.
This year, we are once again sponsoring the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, a 60-mile walk to help raise both awareness and funds. 3-Days take place in seven cities across the country from August through November, and we’re excited to be activating additional support from our local retailers at the events.
Mohawk’s partnership with Komen goes back 18 years, when we first launched Decorate for the Cure and Specify for the Cure, two programs promising a portion of various product sales’ proceeds to Komen. #CushionTheFight refers to our ongoing commitment to give a portion of the proceeds from every SmartCushion carpet cushion purchase to Komen in support of breast cancer research.
We also supply pieces of our SmartCushion to the dedicated participants and volunteers each year, providing a bit of comfort and support during the physically demanding Komen 3-Day events. We first donated more than 800 pieces of SmartCushion at the Philidelphia event in 2015 to comfort participants who slept on the cushions in their tents, helping them rest and rejuvenate after a long day of walking or working.
The next year, we donated more than 6,000 pieces to participants in all seven cities, and this year we plan to provide 7,000 pieces of our durable SmartCushion to the participants and volunteers.
Our wonderful retail partners will also be joining us at all seven Komen 3-Day events to hand out SmartCushion during the lunch rest stops. At the end of each event, the SmartCushion pieces are collected and recycled to ensure they don’t end up in a landfill.
