There are two things you should know about me:
1. I’m obsessed with jewelry.
2. I’m obsessed with organization.
Knowing those two things about me, you would assume I organize my jewelry, right? Well, I have a confession. For years, I’ve been accustomed to just shoving my jewelry in a drawer somewhere. When it’s time to wear it, I usually get to spend 5 minutes detangling and unraveling it. It’s not an enjoyable pastime. I’ve needed a way to organize my hoards of pearls and sparklies for a long time. This past week, I finally decided to salvage an old frame and make a DIY corkboard jewelry organizer.Boy, oh boy, am I thrilled with the results!!Here is the finished product…

Don’t you just love the decorative nailheads I used to hang the jewelry?! I found those at Hobby Lobby for only $2.99!

The best part of this project is that it took me less than an hour to make!

Want to make you own?

Well, let’s get started…

I started out with my favorite frame ever. It was originally just a plain black frame, but I wanted it to be a little special! For a full tutorial on how to stripe a frame like this, you can visit my blog here.

Once you have your frame, gather the rest of your supplies. I was able to get everything I needed from Hobby Lobby. The cork roll was $14.99, but I used the online 50% coupon, so it was only $7.50. I only used up half of it, so I still have tons left over to use on another project.

You will also need scissors and hot glue/staples. I chose to cover my board in burlap, but it would be cute without it, too. You also need thumb tacks or nailheads to hang the jewelry with. I thought giant nailheads would be a great special touch!

First, either cut a piece of cardboard or plywood to fit your frame. Plywood is ideal, but since I had some super-tough cardboard laying around, I used it. It worked just fine.

Roll the corkboard out and put your cardboard on top. Then, cut the plywood to the exact same size as the cardboard. Hot glue the two together firmly.

Now that your corkboard is done, wrap it in burlap and glue it tightly to the back. It won’t matter what it looks like on the backside, as it will be hanging on the wall.

Next, insert your finished corkboard into your empty frame and attach hanging wire.  I also hotglued my corkboard into the frame around the edges so that it didn’t budge.

Now, comes the fun part! You get to hang your finished corkboard on the wall and hang all of your jewelry using your pretty nailheads!

I used big nailheads to hold necklaces and then some smaller nailheads to hold earrings. I just thought it would look neat to add some variety.

Some of the earrings I was able to stick directly in the corkboard. You can arrange the nailheads however you want, and fit as much or as little jewelry on the board as you choose! Get creative!

It really turned out so well that I’m thinking of making some as gifts!

It’s so nice to finally have a place to store and display all of my favorite jewelry!

Hope you’ve enjoyed this little DIY project!

Happy organizing!
